Home Sweet Home

Yesterday I was coming up over La Jolla Parkway, saw the pacific glistening in the sun and felt like I was on the edge of the world as I couldn't help but smile. [Sadly, this picture doesn't even do justice to what I witnessed with my own eyes, that's how amazing it was.] Really, I can't remember being so uncontrollably excited to go to the beach, especially for an open water swim. It was a gorgeous day, blue skies and picture perfect. The water turned out to be pretty choppy for how low and flat the surf looked. Swam a mile and a half, saw some sea life in the likes of jelly fish and leopard sharks. La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove are some of my favorite places.

It's home.

L-O-V-E

I love this guy.

This is Ed. He's my husband. I think he's handsome, don't you? Look at his smile. It's HUGE. I love it. We just celebrated our 8th anniversary. We do things low-key around here. I said no gifts [because I don't need one from him to know that he loves me] but he got me one anyway. He's an ESFJ, that's why. He knows how to make special occasions even more significant. He gave me a copy of Himnos which was very meaningful to me for various reasons I might have to post about later. We went out to eat at CPK, got REAL ice-cream from Haggen Daz [of which my scale was not forgiving of], then we saw the movie SALT. It was mediocre but entertaining. I liked Inception much better. But seeing a movie didn't make the night special, spending time with my beau hunk did :)

I tease him for being a boyscout and laugh at myself for marrying one, but I like that about him. He's a real straight-arrow. He has a strong sense of what's right and wrong. He's just really GOOD. He is a super hard worker. Like he would feel guilty for getting paid for work that was not 100% his best work. He's the guy who will actually look for something to do if there's down time and he's still on the clock, yet he's not a workaholic. See, I'm kind of an all-or-nothing gal and he knows how to keep it in the middle. He is always believing too. He never doubts. He's never had a rebellious phase or been 'less-active' in his faith. I really admire that because...well, you can probably guess why. Did I mention he gives the best hugs? Well, he does. You should try it some time. He has a big round chest and arms that make you feel safe. Yeah, best hugs ever. And if you think those are good...

This guy balances me out so we make a good team. We are very different in many ways. I married him very young and have changed a lot since then, but man, was I LUCKY to find him and reel him in. [Okay, he actually reeled me in. I was a bit resistant.] He is patient with me like no other. For example, I do things very slowly. Just ask my mom. And I'm late a lot and it drives him nuts. In fact, I think he might say I was an hour late to our first date. [In my defense, I thought it was at 6pm not 5pm.] See what I mean by LUCKY? Seriously, what other guy would have given me a second chance? Or a first one at that! The man is a saint.

Over the past year, I've come to realize things I love about my husband that I didn't think of before, or perhaps took for granted. [I know, I'm slow to catch on to this stuff.] He is like my constant. He is steady. He doesn't change much, which can be both a blessing and a challenge. I'm always getting some new [and usually crazy] idea or taking up a new hobby, trying something new. AND he is always supportive of it! I'm always looking for something exciting and different to pacify the mundane in my life but he is completely happy with it, the mundane I mean. He is content and satisfied and that's okay. It's a good thing.

He's also a romantic. A few months ago he played our favorite songs and asked me to dance in our living room. I conceded but I'm not into the mushy. I liked being with him though. Then he looked at me through tear-filled eyes and told me he loved me. It was the sweetest thing. I will always remember that. He didn't wait for the perfect moment, he made it. He's taught me to appreciate the little pleasures in life and isn't afraid to open himself up. He thinks I'm beautiful. [No, no, he tells me on a regular basis. I'm not making it up]. And he's genuine. I would never doubt his sincerity. Did I mention that he's my best friend? But not in a needy, joined at the hip kind of way. He likes that I'm independent and values my privacy [even though I tell him EVERYTHING already]. It just goes to show that he's a very secure guy. I'm not kidding, I scored BIG with him. He is the beeeeest [see, because he would know I am saying that it my Nacho Libre voice].

Most of all, he lets me be ME. People who really know me would say I'm "unique," a term brought to my attention in the fourth grade. It kind of stuck. I got my own way of doing things and a natural aversion to conformity. I'm slow to warm up to trends. I can be a little "funky" but Eddie actually likes that about me. [No, no, he's told me more than once. I wasn't hallucinating.] He likes my artistic side and he likes the lens in which I view my world. We don't always agree but we can agree to disagree. I think that's what makes our relationship special [not to mention, interesting]. We are accepting of each others differences and take it a step further by trying to embrace those differences in order to bring out the best in each other and ultimately better ourselves. He gives me my alone time which I require a lot of. He doesn't understand it but lets me have it anyway. And for that, he is a better man in doing so.

We've had our share of challenges, things we've had to work out together and on our own. Our marriage isn't perfect. We have to work at it. Day by day, we make it work. I'm not gonna lie, it can be HARD. But because we work at it, our love for each other grows broader and deeper. Even though we are sure past that newly-wed phase and have to deal with the daily grind, I can honestly and confidently say that I love my husband MORE than when I married him.

I love you babe.
